From Chaos to clarity : Managing ophthalmic and orbital trauma
Ocular and orbital trauma encompass a vast spectrum of injuries that demand immediate and precise intervention. From isolated corneal lacerations to complex orbital foreign bodies and delicate pediatric injuries, the initial management dictates the long-term visual and structural prognosis. This instruction course equips comprehensive ophthalmologists and residents with a definitive, step-by-step approach to managing diverse trauma presentations. We begin at the surface, outlining watertight techniques for corneal wound repair. Then we will delve deeper into the anterior segment to address the dual challenge of traumatic cataracts and secondary glaucoma. The focus then shifts outward to detailing the critical repair of adnexal injuries and the challenging retrieval and management of orbital foreign bodies. Finally, we address the specialized protocols required for pediatric trauma, where examination limitations and amblyopia risks complicate management.
