Infection Control 360°: Standards, Systems and Safeguards”
Postoperative endophthalmitis remains the most feared complication in ophthalmic surgery, with profound visual and medicolegal consequences. In the current era of NABH compliance, high surgical volumes, and rising patient awareness, sterilization practices are no longer optional protocols but critical standards subject to scrutiny. This Instruction Course aims to provide a focused, practical, and legally relevant update on infection control in ophthalmic operation theatres. The session will have tips on OT cleaning and surface disinfection, highlighting common gaps in routine practice. The role of Class B autoclaves will be critically discussed along with pros and cons of ETO sterilization. Best practices in instrument cleaning, packing, biological monitoring, and documentation will be outlined, The course will conclude with a discussion on medicolegal implications of sterilization failure and strategies for risk mitigation.
